STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE THIS EVENING
A line of showers and thunderstorms will approach the area from the west this evening. This line will be losing energy as it moves east and the sun sets. However, some of the storms may be strong enough to approach severe limits upon arrival in the Valley.
Expect storms to develop between 8 and 10 p.m. The storms will move east of the Valley early into the night, ending between 1 and 3 a.m. The rest of the night will be quiet with some clearing of the clouds.
The severe threat has been much higher to our west today. Our area is under the marginal risk category for severe storms from the Storm Prediction Center. That means isolated strong to severe storms are possible. The challenge for these storms is the timing. They are set to arrive as we lose prime atmospheric conditions for severe storms. Our severe threat hinges on how well the storms can maintain their strength as they move east. The primary threat will be storms capable of severe wind gusts. An isolated rotating storm — capable of producing a quick, isolated tornado — cannot be ruled out. That said, the threat for strong wind gusts is a much higher threat for the evening.
