Zallow dazzles at YSU football Pro Day

Five members of the football team, a couple of pro scouts, and a whole lot of onlookers spent the afternoon at the WATTS Friday for Youngstown State’s pro day.

Charles Baldwin led the way on the bench press with 33 reps of 225, and running back Tevin McCaster posted an unofficial 4.71 in the 40-yard dash. Both are solid numbers, but a couple of track kids also showed up Friday, and stole the show.

Warren JFK grad Chad Zallow and Girard native Collin Harden opened some eyes. Zallow, at 175 pounds, banged out 11 reps of 225 on the bench.

Harden recorded a 37 inch vertical, only to watch Zallow post a staggering 39 inch vert. But the 40-yard dash is what people came to see, and the track kids did not disappoint. Harden’s best time, unofficially, a 4:37.

“It was a good showing but I just wish I could have done better on every single thing. You could never do as good as you want, but you can always get better,” said Harden

Zallow, on the other hand, wowed the crowd again running with 4.3, followed by 4.29, a mark that would have tied the fastest time at the NFL Combine this year.

“I’m a sprinter so I definitely train all year to be explosive, be fast, jump high, so I feel like I was really prepared to do all those things today,” says Zallow.

Now we knew they were fast, but can they catch a football? Harden showed he can certainly stretch the field. And Zallow put the go in go-route with a beautiful over the shoulder grab to finish up the workout.

“I think it was a good opportunity for me to see where I’m at and everything, and see where I’m at running routes and catching the football, and doing football related stuff. I just want to see what comes from this and look at my opportunities,” said Zallow.
