YSU Men hang tough with 1st-place Norse, but falter down the stretch again

The Penguins dropped to 2-6 in Horizon League play with an 82-74 loss Saturday

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) - The YSU men's basketball team dropped their second straight Horizon League game Saturday, an 82-74 loss to Northern Kentucky at Beeghly Center.

The Penguins trailed by just four at halftime, but faltered down the stretch once again, which has been the trend for head coach Jerrod Calhoun's young team.

Drew McDonald scored a game-high 23 points for the Norse, while Jalen Tate and Tyler Sharpe added 13 points apiece.

YSU was led by Donel Cathchart III with 16 points off the bench, while Antwan Maxwell, Jr. chipped in 13.

With the win, Northern Kentucky remains atop the Horizon League standings at 6-1 and 16-4 overall. YSU drops to 2-6 in conference play and 6-15 overall.

The Penguins return to action next Saturday at Cleveland State for a 7 PM tipoff at the Wolstein Center.
