Welcome Home! Carl Pelini returning to Youngstown State coaching staff

Sports Team 27 has confirmed a report that Cardinal Mooney grad Carl Pelini is returning to Youngstown State to become the Penguins defensive coordinator.

FootballScoop.com reported Saturday that Pelini was leaving Bowling Green to come back to YSU as the DC. Sports Team 27’s sources have confirmed that report.

Bowling Green went to Twitter to wish Pelini luck.

Pelini was the defensive coordinator at YSU for three seasons, and in his final year his defense allowed just 19.7 PPG, the lowest for the program since 2007.

The 53-year-old spent just one season with BGSU, becoming the interim head coach after Mike Jinks was fired. Current Falcons head coach Scot Loeffler had retained Pelini as their defenisve coordinator.

The second part of the report from FootballScoop.com says that Carl is the head coach in waiting for whenever his brother Bo decides to leave. Sports Team 27 was unable to confirm that part of the report.

An official announcement from YSU is expected soon, and could be as early as next week.
