LISBON, Ohio (WYTV) – The Lisbon baseball team opens up state tournament play next Tuesday behind their senior leader Logan Bell. He’s the complete package for the Blue Devils with at least six school records to his name.
Plus, Bell is a top-notch student with a great personality and sense of humor and now, he’s our “33 Student Athlete of the Week.”
“I’m a very talkative person I like to say,” Bell said. “Baseball, for example, you got to play it serious but it’s a sport of having fun so when you know people coming around the bases, you can always play jokes on them.”
Bell is always looking to have a good time, but likewise always trying to be better. He’s a four-year starter on the baseball team and one of the most decorated pitchers in school history. In fact, Bell holds Lisbon records for career strikeouts and career ERA.
“I know what I can do so I try to lead mentally, lead physically and show the younger players how to do everything right,” he said.
Bell’s fastball tops out around 90 miles per hour and nearby Akron took notice of that and his curveball. Just a couple months ago, Bell signed to play for the Zips next season. They’ve been without a program since 2015, but are bringing it back starting in 2020.
“I went there and it was just the spot I wanted to be,” Bell said. “I took the tour, visited with my mom and dad and it was perfect. They loved it, I loved it.”
On the gridiron, Logan was also a two-year starter at quarterback, helping lead the Blue Devils to playoff appearances in three of the past four years. Off the field, he ranks fourth in his class with a 4.08 GPA. He’s also a member of National Honor Society with over 200 community service hours.
“Growing up, my parents were always like, it’s academics first, athletics second,” he said. “Doing your homework is just something you can control. It’s like baseball and sports, just control what you can control.”
