Boardman, OH (WYTV) – Krista Johnson has turned into an All Conference performer on the volleyball and basketball teams. Plus, she ranks first in her class academically, making her a perfect fit for our Student Athlete of the Week.
Krista grew up with two older brothers, so needless to say, she’s very competitive. “Everything’s pretty much competition,” said Johnson. “When I step on the court I think its like a different story. You just become like so much more competitive and determined to win, no matter what it is.”
Krista is a three year starter on both the volleyball and basketball teams, averaging 17 points per game last season en route to 1st Team All AAC status.
“My offense is probably more of my game but when I’m out there I know I need to work on rebounding or defense and I know I need to do certain things to help the team.”
Krista is also a standout in the classroom, ranking first in her senior class with a 4.0 GPA.
“I put like my schoolwork first and it’s always been big for me to like push hard in school and work hard in school,” she said. “I’ve just learned to love the game too and they just both go together and I think honestly being an athlete helps me in the classroom.”
Krista also makes time for many different school clubs. She plans to become an Elementary School Teacher and Coach one day, and says she may find her way back to Boardman.
“I’ve enjoyed so much of it, like honestly every second. It’s flown by, but its been so nice. I love the people here, I love the sport, I love school, I love learning, I love the teachers, just the atmosphere, it’s awesome.”
