Columbiana, OH (WYTV) – Senior Hannah Hum will go down as one of the best defensive players in the history of the Columbiana volleyball program. She’s turned into an All Conference performer that also excels in the classroom, earning her the honor of our Student Athlete of the Week.
“I like to joke around a lot but when I need to focus and be serious I am,” said Hum. “I guess I have to step up in the back row and kind of be a leader for the underclassmen. [I’m a] pretty quiet person but I think I lead by example and work really hard at stuff.”
Hannah has set the bar high at Columbiana. She’s a three year starter at libero and holds the school record for digs with over 1,300 for her career, and nearly 700 this year alone.
“As libero, you have to be like totally focused and ready to move and it’s a lot easier if you like read the other team,” she said. “You have to know what’s going to happen, sort of predict things I guess.”
And those skills have made Hannah an All-ITCL selection her sophomore and junior seasons. But her marks in the classroom are equally as impressive, as she ranks 5th in her class with a 3.97 GPA.
“I’m really competitive. I like want to be the best at everything and try as hard as I can…just put a lot of time and effort into everything and try to keep things balanced.”
Hannah plans to continue her academic and athletic career in college, and major in Business…but she’s not wishing her time away at Columbiana just yet.
“I realized a lot like how much I actually like it and how soon its going to be over,” she said. “So I would just say give one hundred percent at everything because hard work definitely pays off.”
