NILES, Ohio (WYTV) - Niles senior Corbin Foy has been through a lot in his 18 years but is always pushing through and always striving to be better.
He's a two-sport star for the Red Dragons, helping the baseball team win three straight conference titles. Plus, Foy is just as accomplished in the classroom, earning him the honor of our "33 Student Athlete of the Week".
"Yeah, I always try to be dominant, but mostly calm, cool," he said.
No matter what he's doing, Foy is a competitor through and through.
"If you're playing me in checkers, if you're playing me in a game on the Xbox or the phone, I'm going to take everything as heavy as possible, nothing is light," Foy said. "So being competitive has always just been in me."
Foy is Niles' ace this year. He tops out around 85 miles per hour and even has a knuckleball in his arsenal. Last year though, he suffered a major setback, missing the entire baseball season with a torn ACL.
"My injury last year had a lot to do with just my heart and my drive," he said. "It taught me a lot how to handle adversity and I've never been as strong as I am now."
Corbin is also an All-Conference performer on the basketball team. As a senior point guard, he averaged 15 points per game and played a big role in the Red Dragons' turnaround season.
"To play with those seniors and I basically grew up with those guys so it meant a lot to me and I think that had a lot to do with how good our season went," he said.
Off the court, Foy carries a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Next year, he's playing baseball on scholarship at Mercyhurst Northeast and studying physical therapy.
"Being a student-athlete, it's tough, don't get me wrong but you can always find time to study," he said. "I'm just excited to go to college and pursue what I've been doing since I was five years old. That has always been my dream to play baseball in college."
