Springfield holds off Canfield’s late push

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Springfield led 5-0 entering the top of the seventh. However, Canfield rallied for 6 to take a one-run advantage. The Tigers prevailed with a pair in the bottom half of the inning to survive with a 7-6 victory.

Hunter Snyder came in relief to get the final out of the seventh and pick up the victory on the hill. Snyder also contributed at the plate by garnering three hits (2 of which were doubles) and a pair of RBIs. Dalton Donachie closed out the contest with a 2 for 4 night with 3 RBIs. Russel Seymor pitched the first 6 2/3 innings for the Tigers as he struck out 5 and allowed 2 hits.

Canfield’s junior Joey Machuga posted 2 hit in 4 at bats. Mark Wittman and Pete Hernandez both drove in two runs respectively.

The Cardinals are the #2 seed in the Struthers Division II District Tournament. They’ll face the winner of Niles and Lakeview on Thursday.

Springfield will play the winner of East Palestine and United on Friday in the Struthers Division III District Tournament.
