Red hot Phantoms sweep weekend series against Green Bay

The Youngstown Phantoms got their 3rd-straight win Sunday evening as they topped Green Bay 3-1 at the Covelli Centre.

The Phantoms are unbeaten in regulation in their last six games (5-0-1).

Youngstown opened the scoring in the first period when Matthew Barnaby Junior stole the puck in the Gamblers zone and converted that into his 9th goal of the season putting the Phantoms up 1-0.

But later in the period, GB answered thanks to Austin Heidemann who scored on the power play with less than 3 minutes to go in the first period.

The game would stay tied until the 3rd period when Brett Murray put the puck in the back of the net on the doorstep to give the Phantoms the lead. It was Murray’s 34th of the season.

Craig Needham added an empty net goal late in the 3rd to seal the 3-1 win.

The win puts Youngstown just 3 points back of Chicago for 2nd place in the Eastern Conference standings. The two team teams get a bye in the first round of the Clark Cup Playoffs.
