Murray nets 40th as Phantoms blank Stampede

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN)-The Youngstown Phantoms forward Brett Murray notched his 40th goal of the season, the first Phantom to ever reach the mark as Youngstown topped Sioux Falls 3-0 Saturday night.

Dalton Messina opened the scoring for the Phantoms, putting a rebound into the net about midway thru the first period.

It would be Murray’s turn in the 2nd when he caused a turnover behind the Stampede net and made them pay with his 40th goal of the season. Murray leads the USHL in goals this year.

Gianfranco Cassaro had the final goal for the Phantoms with less than 4 minutes to go to ice the game for Youngstown.

Christian Stoever got the shutout, stopping all 27 shots he faced.

The Phantoms wrap up the regular season next weekend with a home and home against Team USA.
