After a 17 year hiatus, Badger’s back in the District Final

Sports

Third time is the charm as Badger gets by Windham, 70-43, to advance to their first District Championship since 2002.

Aidan Miller led the Braves with 22 points, with Keith Barto added 17 in the victory. Brad Blaney and Curtis Houser tallied 8 points apiece for the Braves.

Bailey Rutherford led the Bombers with 14 points, while Bery Jones tallied 13. Phillip Maiorca also reached double-figures with 10 in the setback.

The Braves were eliminated by Windham in each of the past two post-seasons (2017 Sectional Semifinal – Bombers, 57-43; 2018 Sectional Final – Bombers, 78-60). In 2002, Badger got the regionals after topping Warren JFK in the Division III Hubbard District – 55-50 – on March 8.

Badger has won 10 of their last 12. Now, the Braves (19-5) will await either Bristol (19-4) or Andrews Osborne Academy (16-6) in tomorrow’s semifinal matchup in the Orwell District Championship.

Windham’s season comes to a close at 13-12. The Bombers advanced to the regionals 8 times in 10 years (2004-2013). However, Windham must wait another year to try to get back to the District Final – a contest which has eluded them in each of the last six years.
