2016 East Liverpool Softball Preview

Head Coach: Gary Burton, 1st season (0-0)

2015 Record: 2-21

Key Losses: The Potters will miss the contributions of their senior leaders Elise Smith and Kira Gill. Many will recall East Liverpool’s first win a year ago when the Lady Potters defeated Linsly, 8-2. Smith struck out 13 batters and walked just two. She also finished the contest with her first homerun of the season.

Key Returnees: Senior catcher Marisa Young returns to give the Potters a reliable backstop. Junior Cyna Burton is set to be the team’s shortstop while sophomore Maddie Brown is projected to handle much of the innings in the center of the infield at pitcher. First-year head coach Gary Burton points out that the unit will find strength by the way they play defense and behind their pitching.

Outlook: With eleven returning letterwinners, the Potters appear primed to be much improved from last year’s 2-21 record. The 2015 team was marred by close losses as they dropped fourteen of twenty-one games by three runs or less.
