2016 Boardman Softball Preview
Coaches: Mike Trell & Marco Marinucci, 8th season varsity (112-82)
2015 Record: 12-16 (AAC)
Key Losses: Boardman graduated just one senior from last season – Kristen Huck, who was a major contributor to the Spartans’ 12-win team, as she was their left fielder and one of their pitchers.
Key Returnees: Boardman features plenty of talented upper classmen led by their senior class with Sydney Aey (1B/P), Lexi Caraballo (2B), Hayley Eicher (OF), Marissa Hanna (3B), Addison Menosky (OF), Miyah Mitchum (C/3B), Olivia Russell (SS), and Anna Saxton (OF). Returning juniors Ashley Cornelius (P), Savanna Dempsey (Utility), Lauren Gabriele (1B/P), Lauren Pavlansky (Utility) will be joined by sophomore catcher Paige Dill on the varsity roster. The Spartans also have a large incoming group of freshmen, who bring a lot of playing experience (travel and/or community play), to compete for time on the varsity and junior varsity level this season.
Outlook: With lots of experience returning and a good mix of talented newcomers, the Spartans’ expectations are high for a successful season. The program has been striving under the leadership of Coach Trell and Marinucci that this season will be the first time in several years that Boardman will field a freshman schedule.
