NILES, OH (WYTV)-It was a tough year for the Niles Red Dragons in 2014, a 1-9 season where the team didn’t post a home win. It was the first time since 2002 that both of those things happened to the Red Dragons but in 2015, the team is expecting a major turnaround.
They return 7 starters on both offense and defense and will feature 18 seniors.
“Hungry to win. Last year was tough, they don’t want to go through that again, and again they’re all in. This team has bought in 100%,” says head coach Brian Shaner who is in his 13th season at Niles.
The Red Dragons welcome back quarterback and linebacker Tyler Srbinovich who completed 68% of his passes last year while leading the team in rushing with 924 yards and 3 scores.
“Last year didn’t go the way we wanted but that’s in the past, it’s history. We’re all hungry for this upcoming season to get back at everybody,” says Srbinovich who also posted 73 tackles on defense.
Niles will open the season August 27th on the road against rival Girard.
