Water service restored in Cortland


CORTLAND, Ohio (WYTV) – Classes were cancelled at Lakeview Local Schools in Cortland Friday because of a water outage.

The outage was city-wide and was discovered about 5:45 a.m.

A broken 8-inch water line on Russell Avenue was found was repaired by 7:30 a.m. It was discovered that a 500,00 gallon tank was emptied and dropped the pressure in the system.

There is no evidence of contamination because of the break, however, EPA requirements mandate a boil advisory when pressure falls below 20 pounds per square inch.

Residents are encouraged to boil water that is going to be consumed for three minutes.

The storage tank is refilling and residents are encouraged to conserve water until pressure is restored.

The boil advisory may continue through the weekend pending the results of bacterial tests.This is a developing story. Check back here and tune in to WYTV 33 News at 5:30.
