Rape suspect charged with bribery

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Mahoning County grand jury indicted a Green Township man Thursday, charging that he tried to bribe a witness in connection with a case in which he was charged with rape.

The grand jury indicted Robert Seman, Jr., 46, charging him with two counts of bribery.

According to prosecutors, Seman called a witness in the case and tried to convince them to say that Corinne Gump made up accusations that Seman raped her. According to court documents, that woman was Seman’s ex-wife.

Gump died in a house fire on the south side of Youngstown early on the morning of March 30, the day that Seman’s rape trial was scheduled to begin.

That day, judge revoked Seman’s bond and delayed his rape trial. Seman is being held at the Mahoning County Jail.

A source also told WYTV that jail workers found burns on Seman’s body when he took a shower several days after having his trial delayed.

A grand jury indicted Seman and charged him with rape on March 20, 2014.

Goshen Township Police arrested Seman March 15 of 2014, charging him with rape after Gump’s mother contacted Goshen Police on March 10 to report that Gump told her Seman had been engaging in sexual conduct with her for several years.
