The Ohio Department of Agriculture is accepting proposals to determine grant funding for programs in the crop industry.

The 2019 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program is funded through the USDA Agriculture Marketing Service. This program will offer grants to programs, enhancing competitiveness of fruits, vegetables, nuts and nursery crops.

The grants awarded to applicants will be between $25,000 and $150,000. According to a press release, applicants will have to provide a minimum match of 25 percent of the grant.

Eligible applicants for the grant include food and agricultural non-profit organizations, commodity groups, universities and research institutions.

ODA said higher grants will be given to projects that show profit potential and opportunities for employment in the crop industry.

Proposals will be accepted until May 3 at 4 p.m.
