NILES (WYTV) – A 15-year-old Niles teenager was expected to be back in juvenile court Friday for his preliminary hearing. This comes as the community still asks why and how something like this could happen.
Jacob Larosa was charged with aggravated murder in the violent beating death of his elderly neighbor, Marie Belcastro. Belcastro was well-liked by her neighbors and knew Larosa prior to the incident. Neighbors even said she paid him to mow her lawn and rake leaves.
The 94-year-old woman was killed March 31 at her Cherry Street home in Niles. Larosa’s sister told WKBN 27 First News that he had just been released from the Juvenile Justice Center that day.
Trumbull County Prosecutor Dennis Watkins had said that he believed Larosa should be tried as an adult. Watkins also noted that his office would work to transfer the case to the adult court system.
