YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has identified a Boardman woman killed after a shooting in Youngstown Thursday morning.
Elizabeth Pledger-Stewart, 46, died from her gunshot wounds after she was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, according to the coroner’s report. Her autopsy will be conducted in Cuyahoga County.
Youngstown police identified the shooter as 59-year-old Dale Williams, of Youngstown. He is charged with aggravated murder.
Police said just after 8 a.m., Williams purposefully crashed his car into Pledger-Stewart’s vehicle in the 2700 block of Market Street.Watch: Witness recounts crash, fatal shooting
The incident happened during morning rush hour as several witnesses were traveling by.
“I noticed this van come flying from the other end of Market, coming from Southern Boulevard. He was like flying like a bat out of hell. He hit this lady in the blue car; hit her from the back,” said a witness who did want to be identified.
The crash forced Pledger-Stewart’s car into the St. George and the Dragon, a smoke shop on Market Street.
Witnesses say both drivers climbed out of their vehicles just as Youngstown Officer Rusty Davis was pulling up to the intersection at Indianola Avenue. Lt Doug Bobovnyik said Davis saw Williams shoot the woman.
“He shot her twice. She hit the ground, and he walked right up on her and fired at her. I’m thinking, ‘Oh, my God,'” said Sadie Meyers, witness.
Meyers said the victim was shot five times. Other witnesses say a total of ten shots were fired.
No one else was injured.
