YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Youngstown man is in critical condition after leading police on a motorcycle chase and crashing into the back of a car.

The crash happened at Route 224 and Tiffany Boulevard in Boardman Township.

The driver, 53-year-old Robert Baghurt, Jr., of Youngstown, was thrown from his bike. He is currently at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown.

James Boniface , 21, of Poland was driving the car. He and a passenger were uninjured.

The police chase started in Poland when Village Police got a tip someone on a motorcycle was swerving all over the road around 10:15 p.m. Thursday. When officers tried to stop him, he kept going and crashed into the back of a car stopped at a red light at Tiffany Boulevard, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol said to not try to run when their lights are seen.

“We just need you to yield and pull over. Obviously, if you get a ticket out of it, that’s the worst of it. We don’t want people in the motoring public to flee and elude. You’re putting yourself at risk of bodily harm as well as the people around you,” said Sergeant Brian Vail of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Police said Baghurst had a suspended license. Toxicology tests will be done at the hospital to see if he was drinking.
