YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – After a day and a half of deliberations, a Mahoning County jury has convicted a Youngstown man in connection with a string of armed robberies that took place 18 months ago.
Joseph Mascarella faced 15 counts of aggravated robbery with gun specifications and was was found guilty on nine of them. The gun specifications carry a mandatory sentence of three years. No sentencing date has been set yet.
Mascarella’s trial began last week. He was one of three suspects accused in a series of holdups involving fast food restaurants and convenience stores on the city’s south side in the fall of 2013.
Prosecutors said the thieves held guns to the heads of store clerks while others grabbed cash drawers.
