YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The outside of the main library in Youngstown is still under construction, but inside there is something new.

Monday morning was the grand opening for the Family Engagement Area for the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County

It’s a dedicated space for kids to play and learn.

Teens are also welcome and there’s even a DIY area. The open house runs until 7 p.m. Monday.

In a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning, library members were invited the public to come use the space.

The design of the space started well over a year ago as part of the $27 million library renovation.

“We want to get people really excited about being creators themselves as opposed to just consumers,” said Aimee Fifarek, CEO of Youngstown Public Library.

This is the first of their renovation to premier to the public.

The space is open to the entire public and even includes a lounge area for visitors to read or get work done.
