Youngstown CityScape prepares for upcoming beautification project downtown

Local News

Youngstown CityScape held its annual kick-off breakfast on Friday to prepare for its upcoming projects.

The group is working toward a beautification event, themed “Spruce Up Youngstown,” that takes place on June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon.

They are inviting the community to come downtown and help with the project by mulching and cleaning. Youngstown CityScape has more than 160 pots and 40 different planting areas throughout the city.

“I really think it’s an important part of engaging our community. It really shows the heart of our Valley’s people. They care about helping out, doing something for our city,” said executive director Sharon Letson.

Last year, more than 600 people showed up to volunteer. Youngstown CityScape staff members take care of the flowers and plants all summer long.

Registration for Spruce Up Youngstown is $10. There will be an included breakfast, lunch and the first 500 people receive a T-shirt.
