All clear given after Youngstown City Hall evacuation due to suspicious package

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The all clear was given after Youngstown City Hall was evacuated because of a suspicious package.

There was some unexpected excitement Thursday morning at City Hall after a pair of suspicious packages arrived, addressed to City Council. They had no return address.

Security called for the YPD Bomb Squad to take a closer look.

The building was evacuated about 10:20 a.m.

Technicians X-rayed the packages and determined they contained batteries and other equipment for new neighborhood watch cameras.

“Possible two, maybe three years ago, we would have said ‘Oh, just put it aside. We’ll look at it later.’ But we have to make sure we err on the side of caution. I want to make safety first for all of our employees and our community as well,” said Mayor Tito Brown.

After about 90 minutes, the “all clear” was given, and workers were allowed back inside the building.
