As Hispanic culture thrives in the Valley, a lot of organizations take the opportunity to celebrate their heritage during the month of September — and share it with the community.
The Spanish Evangelical church in Youngstown held a Caribbean fundraiser for their parish. The night was full of traditional foods and dances.
For Ruth Rojas, a member of the church says it’s about embracing their culture.
“We want to maintain our cultures — many new immigrants are coming over as well and they share. So the church maintains that sense of unity with the generations. So grandma might speak Spanish — the next generation speaks both — and maybe the children might just speak English but yet they are in love with their culture.”
