Employees with Northside Medical Center were able to spend at least part of their workday looking for new jobs to take after the hospital closes in a few weeks.
Thursday was the first of two job fairs held specifically for Northside workers.
Executives with the hospital’s parent corporation, Steward Health, have decided to shut down the September 20.
Since the announcement of the closure, other healthcare providers have offered to meet with Northside employees to see if they may be able to land new jobs.
“We have nearly 40 employers here with us today. We also have over 200 within the Steward system, locally. There are hundreds of jobs in the Valley, so we had a great showing of support from our community today,” said Trish Hrina, Steward Health spokesperson.
By mid-afternoon, more than 250 workers had gone through the job fair.
Steward will host another event on September 6.
Mercy Health will host its own job fair for Northside employees Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane, Youngstown.
