KINSMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – During all the chaos of evacuating Kinsman residents from their flooded homes on Saturday, a misunderstanding could have turned deadly.

We got reports of a woman firing a gun while crews we’re trying to save her.

Sen. Sean O’Brien said crews wanted to use her property to get to the flooded homes in the area behind Kinsman Lake.

After she realized they weren’t a threat, they were able to help her.

“There was a lady who thought there was people trespassing on her property and did fire a shot into the air, trying to get those people off of her property. It was just a misunderstanding. She thought they were trespassing when that wasn’t the case,” said Lt. Jerad Sutton, Ohio State Highway Patrol – Warren Post.

Highway Patrol said the woman was evacuated.

The Kinsman Police Department is handling the case.
