WARREN, Ohio (WYTV) – A Warren man was arrested and charged with beating the pregnant mother of his child on Friday.
Officers were sent to the Martin Street home that the couple shared for reports of screaming and loud music just before midnight on Friday. Police arrived to find 31-year-old Marques Shannon standing over the pregnant woman hitting her in the face, according to a Warren City Police report. Police said the woman was holding an infant while she was being struck.
Police struck Shannon with a taser twice, after he refused orders from an officer, according to the report. He was taken to Trumbull Memorial Hospital to have the taser probes removed and later to Trumbull County Jail for a felonious assault charge.
Police said the victim was also taken to Trumbull Memorial for her injuries, including cuts on her head and face from being struck with a broom by Shannon.
Shannon is being held without bond, pending a preliminary hearing at Warren Municipal Court on Thursday.
The woman told police that the attack was unprovoked and occurred after Shannon started screaming at her about $1,500 he lost. She said Shannon also threatened to kill her and the child.
