Warning sirens accidentally activated at Pa. nuclear power plant

SHIPPINGPORT, Pa. (WYTV) – Warning sirens were accidentally activated at a Pennsylvania nuclear power plant Friday afternoon.

The Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station is located in Shippingport and borders the lower part of Columbiana County.

The sirens went off around 3:30 p.m. in Columbiana, Hancock and Beaver counties.

A representative said there is no emergency.

Hancock County’s 911 call center is in the process of being relocated. The warning sirens were inadvertently activated while electricians were transitioning them to the new call center.
