HERMITAGE, Pa. (WYTV) – A half-size replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. opened in Hermitage on Thursday.
It is sponsored by the Avenue of 444 Flags Foundation.
The wall in Hermitage contains over 58,000 names of fallen heroes.
Organizers held opening ceremonies at the site on East State Street.
“It’s very touching to me because there’s names on there of people I was in combat with, ate with and was in the foxhole with. It’s a very moving thing,” said Vietnam veteran Smith Mealy.
The moving wall is on display 24 hours a day through 8 a.m. Monday. At that point, the dismantling process will begin and the wall will move on to its next location.
The original memorial wall opened in Washington in 1982.
