A man pleaded guilty in the death of his 5-week-old daughter in Trumbull County last year and was handed his punishment.
Matthew Wilson pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Friday. Judge Wyatt McKay sentenced him to nine years in prison.
It happened in February of 2017 at a house on Bellair Court in Niles. Police said it started as a medical call for a baby with a heart condition.
Wilson told the baby’s mother he was holding the infant when he tripped and fell on top of her. Prosecutors said her injuries did not match up with the story.
The baby girl was taken to the hospital, which reported a case of possible abuse to the police.
After a police investigation, Wilson was arrested about a week later.
The baby’s mother and other family members were in court on Friday but did not speak.
“They are conflicted. They are glad there is a resolution to this case. Nothing can bring Aubreana back,” said Assistant Prosecutor Diane Barber.
Wilson has already been in jail for about a year and a half, ever since he was charged with murder.
