Michael Malvasi, Jr. is charged with vehicular manslaughter for a fatal crash in Canfield, Ohio

CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A trial is set to begin this fall for a man accused of leaving his friend behind after a severe Canfield crash.

Michael Malvasi, Jr. is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene in the death of Ryan Lanzo in November of 2017.

According to state troopers, the victim was the passenger in Malvasi’s Mercedes SUV when it crashed along Shields Road. Investigators say instead of calling for help from the scene, the driver walked to his home from a mile and a half away.

Officials say Malvasi and his father, Michael, Sr., returned to the scene and the elder Malvasi drove Lanzo to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A pretrial on Friday determined that Malvasi’s trial would be held on Sept. 23.
