YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A man accused of taking part in a multi-million dollar fraud ring withdrew his plea in court today, expressing his innocence.
Jason Moore is charged engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity for what prosecutors say was his part in a scam to sell fake sports memorabilia on eBay to thousands of victims nationwide. The scam made the group between $1.5 million to $2.5 million over a five-year period, according to Assistant Mahoning County Prosecutor Marty Desmond.
Moore was supposed to be sentenced Tuesday and had agreed to a plea deal that would have sent him to prison for three years, but at his sentencing hearing Moore said he was innocent and misled about his charges.
Now, prosecutors say he faces a longer prison sentence, if found guilty.
All the original charges will be reinstated, and a pretrial set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
