GIRARD, Ohio (WYTV) – Police were dispatched Wednesday afternoon to a crash involving a semi tanker in Girard.
The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. on Interstate 80 westbound, closing the road for about two hours.
Ohio State Highway Patrol said 51-year-old Kenneth Miller, of Ravenna, was driving behind a pickup truck in the right lane. The pickup truck slowed down suddenly and Miller swerved to avoid hitting it, according to an accident report.
The semi drove off the road, hitting a guardrail. It then came to rest in the right lane.
“It’s very congested at times, especially now that we have the construction season in full swing and it’s…a dangerous section of highway,” Sergeant Patrick Abel said.
The tanker was empty at the time and Miller was not injured. He was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance.
