YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Mill Creek MetroParks officials marked the end of the lily pond improvements with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday.
The last of the improvements was updates to the parking lot on Birch Run Road. There is also a new observation deck, floating bridge and signs to educate visitors on wildlife.
The landscaping was even redone, and native plants were added.
“To see that where we never had vegetation for the last couple decades was excited. We see the butterflies flying around. We see hummingbirds,” said Steven Avery, director of planning at Mill Creek MetroParks.
More than $123,000 in Ohio EPA grants funded the improvements.
Previously, more than $250,000 improvements to the area had been made. Those improvements included new walkways and a welcome building and had been mostly funded by donors.
