Portion of street closed in Salem due to unsafe building

SALEM, Ohio (WYTV) – A portion of a major thoroughfare in Salem will be closed beginning Friday because of concerns surrounding the structural integrity of a building.

State Street between Broadway and Lundy will be closed beginning at 6 a.m. Friday because of safety concerns caused by the TanFastic building’s deteriorating condition, according to Salem police.

Traffic will be detoured onto Pershing Street. Local traffic will be detoured to Second Street.

The city does not own the building but is considering demolition pending a safety report indicating it would be necessary to take it down.

The detour is in place until further notice.
