YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police have identified the teenager who was shot and killed Tuesday night in Youngstown.

The victim is 16-year-old Isaiah Walker, a sophomore at Rayen Early College.

Just after 8 p.m., neighbors called police about hearing gunshots at or near Homestead Park.

Police said at this time, it is unknown where exactly the shooting occurred, but they believe it happened in the area of Homestead Park.

Walker went running back to his home in the 700 block of Wilbur Avenue after the shooting and later died from his wounds.

“From what we understand right now, the shots came from in or around Homestead Park, which is just a few hundred feet from us here. We really believe he was down in the park playing with other individuals – basketball. If anyone has any information on a suspect, a vehicle, anything. Any bit of information is useful to us,” said Captain Jason Simon on Tuesday.

The incident is under investigation. Police do not know if the boy was targeted on purpose.

Police are asking anyone who was in or near the park around 8 p.m. to give them or CrimeStoppers a call if they saw or heard anything. Those with information can call 330-746-CLUE or 330-746-8YPD.

Police said tips can be left anonymously.

This is the second shooting in the past two years at Homestead Park. In July 2020, 19-year-old Brandon Wesley was killed while he too was playing basketball in the park.
