HERMITAGE, Pa. (WYTV) – A police pursuit that started around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday ended in a crash on U.S. 422 in Girard.

The chase began after a truck was stolen from the parking lot of Sheetz in Hermitage while the owner was inside the store. The truck had been left running.

Police identified the man who stole the vehicle as 67-year-old Daniel Disiero, of Wallingford, Connecticut.

Police said Disiero drove northbound on S. Hermitage Road after taking the car. The victim got a ride from an acquaintance and attempted to find the stolen vehicle, later stopping at the Hermitage Police Department to file a report.

Police found the stolen vehicle by tracking the victim’s cell phone, which was left in the stolen vehicle. Police said the cell phone app showed the car was near the police station, and at 7 a.m., it drove past the station on State Route 18.

Officers began following the vehicle, leading to a chase, which continued on to Interstate 80. Reaching a high rate of speed, Disiero took exit 227 in Girard, crashing into the Shell Gas station on U.S. 422 and two other vehicles.

Disiero is being charged with theft and motor vehicle violations.
