POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – A COVID-19 test kit giveaway in Poland Township ended early after all of the kits were given away.

The kits were available to Poland residents only at the Administration Building on Dobbins Road. The giveaway started early Friday and ended when all 1,000 tests were distributed.

Cars began lining up as early as 4:30 a.m. Some even ended up waiting for four hours.

The test kits were purchased with $10,000 to $15,000 of American Rescue Plan Act money.

“The Board of Trustees felt it was important,” said township Trustee Eric Ungaro.

Ungaro started handing them out a half-hour early. They passed out all 1,000 in just 45 minutes.

“We said from the start, ‘We’re gonna give back to the community.’ This is our first step,” Ungaro said.

Now, trustees are looking at what to do next with their Rescue Plan Act money.

“We’re gonna start having meetings on the first Wednesday of every month, discuss and be open on what we plan on doing with this money,” Ungaro said.

Another giveaway was planned for Monday, but that is now canceled since all of the tests were distributed.
