BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – A local sporting goods store opened early Tuesday for Buckeye fans who couldn’t wait to buy championship gear
A handful of Buckeye fans were up bright and early to get their hands on some championship merchandise.
Andrew Koval of Boardman wanted to beat the crowd and make sure he got what he wanted.
“I wanted to get here before the big crowd came, and this was the best time for me and I didn’t want to come in later and everything is picked over,” Koval said.
Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Boardman opened at 6 a.m., three hours before their regular opening time. T-shirts and hats were available boasting OSU’s win and naming the university as the “undisputed champs.”
Faithful fan Carol Basinger of Leetonia was one of the first in the store.
“My son is a senior at Crestview and he says man that would be really cool if I could wear that to school tomorrow, and I’m like ‘Dude, that’s early.’ I’m like alright, he is spoiled,” Basinger said.
Gary Kalbasky of Struthers wanted to wear his championship gear to show his co-workers.
“I wanted to be the first to get my stuff and wear it into work today,” Kalbasky said.
Owning a little bit of the Buckeye history is fun for the fans and a big draw for retailers. The average price for a Buckeyes National Championship shirt is about $26.
