Ohio Highway Patrol trooper throws first pitch at Scrappers game for PSA

Local News

The Indiana, Pennsylvania and Ohio State Highway Patrols are working with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to try to stop distracted driving.

Trooper Lindsay Buckner, from Ohio’s Highway Patrol, threw the first pitch for Friday night’s game against State College as part of a public service announcement (PSA) that talks about the dangers of distracted driving.

Buckner said she was nervous to do it, but if it gets people to pay attention on the roads then it’s worth it.

“Seeing crashes, going to crashes and hearing the cause of the crash is because people got distracted or the person was on the cell phone, it’s really heart-wrenching to know that it could have been preventable,” she said.

“The number of distracted driving fatal crashes nearly doubled between 2016 and 2017. The texts can wait,” said Lt. Phillip Robinson, Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The PSA will be played throughout the homestand.
