YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – A fire at a local daycare on Glenwood Avenue spread throughout the plaza, leading the fire department to call in extra crews.
Concepts of Learning Preschool and Baby Land caught fire around 2 a.m. Sunday.
The front and back of the building were on fire which then spread throughout the plaza and hit Soul Foods.
The whole plaza was filled with smoke by the time the Youngstown Fire Department arrived.
Fire Chief John O’Neill said it is too early to tell how the fire started.
“As soon as we get cleaned up here, we will have a better look at how bad the damage is inside, but it looks like the structure itself will be in good shape,” O’Neill said.
No one was inside the plaza when it caught fire.
The weather gave fire crews difficulty while trying to put the fire out.
“This heat is really knocking them down. I mean, the guys are working really hard. We got to get them some water and rotate these crews as much as we can because these guys are really beat up,” O’Neill said.
O’Neill also said off-duty fire crews were called in to help.
