Over 100 people were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday after a raid at Fresh Mark in Salem. Since then over 60 have been released.
ICE has stated that approximately 66 detainees were processed and released “for humanitarian purposes.”
However, on Monday Sister Rene Weeks, with St. Paul Catholic Church, told us not all those that were detained are illegal.
“Most of them are here legally but they were taken last night because they didn’t have documents with them at the moment that proved that, so everyone was taken,” Sister Rene said.
Many Guatemalan families are getting help from St. Paul’s.
For now, there are still approximately 80 people being held. The men are being held at Northeast Ohio Correctional Center and the women are at Geauga County Jail.
