YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WYTV) – Mahoning County Commissioners appointed Ralph Meacham Thursday as the county’s acting auditor until his term officially starts March 9.
Monday, three judges appointed by the Ohio Supreme Court decided to suspend Michael Sciortino from the position. Sciortino’s term was set to end March 8, with Meacham taking over March 9 and being sworn in March 10.
Ohio state law requires there to be a department head in the auditor’s office, forcing commissioners to make the move Thursday. Meacham was not at the ceremony Thursday.
Meacham ran against and defeated Sciortino in November’s election.
Sciortino, along with Youngstown Mayor John McNally and lawyer Marty Yavorcik were all indicted in May 2014 for their alleged roles in trying to keep the county from buying Oakhill Renaissance Place in Youngstown.
