The Mahoning County Commissioners accepted an award for a restoration project at the courthouse on Thursday.
The Mahoning Valley Historical Society picked four projects for its 2018 Historic Preservation Awards.
One involved the statues resting on top of the courthouse building.
They were taken down in 2010 after they were damaged.
The county spent $70,000 to repair them and return them to the roof last year.
“It’s a big deal for Mahoning County, not just for commissioners, but for the whole Valley, and if you have children or just want to see the most beautiful building, you have to go into our courthouse,” said Mahoning County Commissioner, Carol Righetti.
Righetti said in the future, she’d like to see renovations inside of the courthouse also recognized for its appearance.
