BOARDMAN, Ohio (WYTV) – Four senior citizens were honored Wednesday for giving back to their communities.

Shepherd of the Valley holds the Valley Legacy Awards every year. This year, 11 people were nominated for the award.

Winners included Dr. Rashid Abdu, for his work with Mission of Love; Sandra Bilovesky, who leads the Bereavement Ministry at her church; and Nick and Agnes Krut, who helped start Campbell’s St. Vincent de Paul Society.

John Rozzo, of Niles, received the Cliff C. Johnson Memorial Award for Timeless Service to the Community.

Organizers say that spirit of service is a good example for everyone.

“Most of the people we are honoring today are in their 80s, so if you’re in your 80s and you can take the time to make the world a better place, then certainly those of us that are younger and healthier can do that as well,” said Danielle Procopio, director of marketing at Shepherd of the Valley.

This is the ninth year for the event.
