Leavittsburg fire spreads from garage to two houses; family suspects arson

Local News

LEAVITTSBURG, Ohio (WYTV) – A Warren Township family believes the fire that destroyed two houses on Burwell Road early Thursday morning was set on purpose. Two garages on the same properties were also destroyed.

Heather Tenney said she woke up at about 3:45 a.m to neighbors banging on her door and yelling for her to get out of her house. She said when she opened the door, she couldn’t believe what she saw.

“I opened the door and saw this blazing from the garage. I woke up my husband and we got out as fast as we could,” Tenney said. “I had him move the cars out of the way and go back inside and get the dogs.”

Warren Township firefighters arrived on the scene about 4 a.m. The fire was put out about an hour later. Braceville, Southington and Champion firefighters also responded.

Tenney said she believes a family squabble may be the motive behind the fire she believes was intentionally set. Firefighters could not confirm that information.

The Trumbull County Fire Investigation Unit was looking over the fire scene. The fire started in one of the garages and spread to the other nearby buildings. There’s no cause yet.

No injuries were reported.
