The man accused of killing his former girlfriend a year and a half ago as she was driving to work will stand trial this spring.

Dale Williams is accused of waiting for — and then ambushing — Elizabeth Pledger along Market Street in Youngstown back in June 2017.

Thursday morning in court, Judge Maureen Sweeney ruled Williams is competent to stand trial.

Prosecutors say Williams stalked the woman to learn her route to work and then waited for her, crashed into her car and shot her several times before surrendering to police.

Trial is set for this May.
