A man from Howland Township is safe thanks to several police departments working together to talk him out of taking his own life.
Police were called to a condominium development on Sandpiper Trail just after 5 p.m. Thursday. A woman called 911 and said her step-father wanted to shoot himself.
The woman said her mother was in the condo with the man and he had a gun.
911 Caller: “My mom is there with him right now. She said for them not to have any sirens on and to come in through the garage.”
Howland Township police were the first to arrive. They evacuated the neighbors next door and then called in a Crisis Response Team to talk to the distraught man.
A little more than three hours later, crews got the man to come out safely. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
Neighbors were then allowed to go back to their homes.
